Liverpool are interested in snapping up Russian striker Fedor Chalov, according to the Mirror.

The 21-year-old currently plays for CSKA Moscow in his home country, and is understood to be valued at around £20 million by the club.

Chalov finished last season as the Russian Premier League’s top scorer with 15 goals, but the Reds could face competition from fellow Premier League giants Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham and Manchester United for his services.

OPINION

This would be a great little signing for Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp has made it fairly clear form the outset that he doesn’t plan on spending huge amounts this summer, but £20 million is like a drop in the ocean to a club as big as the Reds, and it’s not everyday that a player with Chalov’s potential becomes available. At 21, to be taking the golden boot in the Russian Premier League is some achievement, and he looks as if he could keep on getting better and better as time goes by. His reading of the game is top drawer and, as reported by Total Football Analysis, his movement to create chances makes him a real handful for defenders. Are the Reds likely to make a move? Given Divock Origi’s new contract, plus the inclusion of Rhian Brewster in Klopp’s preseason plans, probably not, but given how well he has performed since bursting onto the season, he would be a very tidy addition should they choose to pursue a deal.
