Liverpool have approached the agent of Fenerbahce goalkeeper Berke Ozer with an enquiry about his availability this summer, according to Goal.

The news outlet claims that Manchester City and Swiss giants Basel have also been in contact with the 19-year-old’s representatives.

It is understood that Liverpool missed out on signing Ozer last year when he opted to join Fenerbahce instead of them.

However it would seem that his move to the Turkish giants was under false pretences as he thought he would be getting more first-team opportunities in Istanbul.

Ozer is a highly-regarded young goalkeeper but only made one senior appearance for Fenerbahce last term.

OPINION

Liverpool could do with looking at future goalkeeper options because it is pretty clear that Simon Mignolet and Lorius Karius do not have long-term futures at Anfield. Berke is a hard one to judge because he’s barely played any senior football in his career. He came through at Turkish second-tier side Altinordu, but only played eight times in their first-team before he was snapped up by Fenerbahce. Last season saw the 6ft 3 [transfermarkt] colossus play just the once when he kept a clean sheet against Giresunspor in the Turkish Cup last June. According to Goal, Fenerbahce are not really a team that gives youth a chance and Berke should see that he is better off moving elsewhere this summer. Fenerbahce seem willing to loan the goalkeeper out but he’s not going to get much game-time at Liverpool. Basel is looking like the most likely destination for Berke at the moment unless Liverpool sell Mignolet.
