Liverpool are part of a four-team transfer tug of war for Tottenham Hotspur left back Danny Rose, according to Sport.

The Spanish newspaper claims that the Reds are one of a clutch of European heavyweights eyeing a move for the England international this summer.

Spanish champions Barcelona are said to have been offered the chance to sign the 29-year-old, who has made 198 appearances for Spurs [Source: Transfermarkt], but opted against signing him.

The Reds’ Premier League rivals Manchester United are also thought to be in for Rose, while French champions Paris Saint-Germain and German giants Schalke are in the hunt too.

OPINION

Liverpool seem to be linked with every available left back this summer, so it was only a matter of time until Rose reportedly came on their radar. The Englishman is a quality operator, there’s no doubt about that, but he’s probably too expensive to serve as Andrew Robertson’s deputy. What Jurgen Klopp is looking for this summer is, effectively, someone who can sit behind the Scotland captain in the pecking order and come in when needed to give Robertson a rest or if he suffers an injury or a suspension. You don’t need a world class player to feature in that role, you simply need a solid operator who can be relied upon to do a solid job when he does play. Robertson will swallow up most of the game time on the left hand side of defence, of course, and so you just want someone to fill Alberto Moreno’s bit-part position from last season. Rose, though, is an established world class left back who would want pretty regular game time. However, he’s simply not going to get that at Anfield.
