Liverpool will receive £242,000 in compensation for Bobby Adekanye after he completed his move to Lazio, according to Sky Sports.

The Italian giants confirmed on Tuesday, via their Twitter account, that they had signed the 20-year-old winger on a free transfer after his Liverpool contract expired.

Adekanye joined Liverpool from Barcelona in July 2015, but failed to make an appearance for the club’s senior team before exiting.

OPINION

While £242,000 isn’t an amount that will have the jaws of Liverpool fans dropping, it’s better than nothing. After all the 20-year-old never managed to break into the first-team, so it’s not like Liverpool supporters should be overly concerned that he has left. Adekanye featured nine times for the Reds’ U-23s in the Premier League 2 in the 2018/19 season, scoring one and assisting two. The 20-year-old also featured four times for the Reds’ U-19s in the UEFA Youth League; racking up an impressive two goals in his outings. However, while he did well at youth system, there’s no guarantee he’ll be able to step and succeed at senior level. After all the Reds never opted to loan him out, nor did Barcelona, so he has no experience of playing senior football despite being 20-years-old. However, Adekanye could certainly prove himself now he is at Lazio. The Italian club are set to be in the Europa League in the upcoming 2019/20 season and that could see his development pick up at a rapid pace.
