Liverpool have ruled out the possibility of Simon Mignolet leaving Anfield on loan this summer, according to the Echo.

The Belgian stopper only made two appearances for the Reds last season, and is very much seen as the deputy to Alisson Becker’s number one spot.

But Jurgen Klopp is unwilling to allow the 6’4″ ace [Transfermarkt] to leave Merseyside on a temporary basis, and would only be tempted by a deal offering “incredible terms”.

OPINION

This may seem harsh on Mignolet, but it makes sense to keep him on the books. The 31-year-old has been a model professional during his time at Anfield, even though he has faced seem real issues and has ultimately been usurped by Alisson. That being said, he is still a top quality goalkeeper, and one who is more than capable of filling in when it is required of him. You don’t make 670 top flight saves and keep 80 clean sheets if you’re not up to the job at hand [Premier League], and while the Reds have enjoyed a noticeable upturn in fortunes since bringing in Alisson, Mignolet still deserves recognition. That is why a move seemed like the natural thing for him to do this summer, but based on the manner in which he has conducted himself throughout his time in England, if he does end up staying on Merseyside, he will no doubt give his all for the Reds.
