Liverpool have tabled a bid to re-sign Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona, according to Calcio Mercato.

The Italian news outlet claims that the Reds have offered to take the 27-year-old on a two-year loan deal before having the option to make the move permanent for a huge fee of £88million.

It is understood that Barcelona are unimpressed by Liverpool’s proposal with Paris Saint-Germain also interested in the Brazil international.

OPINION

Liverpool are having a laugh if they think that Barcelona will accept that offer. Coutinho is more than likely on massive wages after joining Barca from the Reds in January 2018 and even though it seems like he might be on his way out of the Nou Camp this summer, fans shouldn’t expect him to return to Anfield. Liverpool have been linked with plenty of players this summer and based on the club’s business, Jurgen Klopp only seems interested in bolstering some youth options rather than adding to his first team. If there was one area of Liverpool’s squad that needed improving, it would be in the central attacking midfield role that Coutinho vacated last year. However the suggestion all summer has been that Liverpool are not willing to spend big, and who can really blame them? They’re European champions. Unless someone key leaves Anfield, then no one has to be signed.
