Liverpool midfielder James Milner sent a gushing message to Reds youngster Rhian Brewster after his dazzling display against Tranmere Rovers on Thursday.

The 19-year-old made an emphatic return from injury in the team’s first pre season friendly of the off season, scoring twice as Jurgen Klopp’s side beat their Merseyside neighbours 6-0 at Prenton Park.

Milner was thrilled for the young man, while he included a cheeky Divock Origi-themed hashtag, as well: “Good run out tonight,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account.

“Delighted to see Rhian back & doing what he does best! #anyonefancyabrew #shockdivscored #preseason.”

OPINION

It certainly was good to see Brewster back in action on Thursday, and it’s a sight that will have delighted not just Liverpool supporters, but English football fans in general. There was such excitement surrounding Brewster when he first burst onto the scene with England’s youth teams, but the major injury that kept him out of essentially the entirety of last season really slowed his progress. However, he is clearly someone who Klopp has high hopes for, and Milner is obviously a fan as well. Him saying that Brewster scoring twice is him being back to what he does best tells you all you need to know about what the veteran midfielder thinks of the youngster as a goalscorer. Milner has emerged as an unexpectedly comedic figure in recent years, and his use of the #shockdivscored hashtag is further evidence of that, referencing the Belgian international coming on and scoring once again for the Reds on Thursday.
