Match of the Day pundit Danny Murphy has been drooling over the prospect of Fulham wonderkid Harvey Elliott joining Liverpool this summer amid reports that a deal is close to completion.

According to Goal, the Reds have beaten a number of top clubs in England and Europe to sign the 16-year-old, who became the Premier League’s youngest-ever player last season when he played for Fulham against Wolves.

It is understood that the deal is expected to be finalised this week and that Elliott is a boyhood Liverpool supporter.

Murphy has tipped Elliott to have a big future at Anfield and reckons that he will be seen in Jurgen Klopp’s first team on a few occasions next season.

“It might not transpire this summer, but in the next couple of seasons I would imagine they’re hoping he develops to get some first-team action,” Murphy told talkSPORT, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.

“He’s a great dribbler, he’s very sharp and he’s got good feet.

“He could play in one of those front three roles, that’s probably where we’d see him get his go.

“We’ll probably see him in a cup competition this season.

“I think this kid could be a superstar and if he has got the talent to do it, he’s at the right place.”

OPINION

Hopefully Elliott can get a few senior appearances under his belt next season because after playing twice in the league last season, there was a good chance that Fulham planned to use the young attacker more regularly in the Championship. Fulham have done well at developing young players in recent years with Ryan Sessegnon’s form in the second-tier reportedly attracting the attention of some top sides. Elliott’s record-breaking season last time out has already captured the attention of Liverpool, who have done well to beat a lot of teams to his signature. Liverpool just need to make sure that he is given a fair chance to keep on earning first team experience. After next season is over and he’s settled down on Merseyside, it might be a good idea to send him out on loan to a Championship side. If Elliott can perform well in the second-tier while still a teenager, there is a good chance he’ll make it as a Premier League player for Liverpool.
