Dean Saunders suggested that Liverpool sign Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen this summer.

The former Reds forward was discussing whether Jurgen Klopp should sign players to improve his first-team in the current window and namedropped the Spurs midfielder as an option they should consider.

Saunders claimed that Eriksen could slot into the Reds’ team as they needed a player like him who could make their midfield more productive.

“I think…spend it maybe…I think maybe Eriksen could slot into Liverpool’s team, somebody like Eriksen,” said Saunders on talkSPORT (6:49am, Friday, July 19th).

“That type of player, someone who could make their midfield more productive.”

OPINION

Eriksen isn’t the worst shout, but Tottenham will surely demand a ridiculously high fee for him. The Daily Mirror previously reported that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy had slapped a £100million price tag on Eriksen’s head with the playmaker keen to leave. While the 27-year-old, who earns £75,000-a-week currently (Source: Spotrac), is clearly a talented player, would he be worth such a huge investment? Eriksen definitely could be a creative spark in the Reds’ midfield after all he scored 10 goals and assisted 17 in the 51 outings he made for Spurs across all competitions last season. In fact, Eriksen ended his 2018/19 campaign with 12 of those assists coming in his Premier League outings, which was the joint third-highest in the league alongside Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold (Source: Premier League). So there’s no denying that Liverpool’s current forwards could thrive if Eriksen arrived at Anfield, however his price tag will surely put Klopp off.
