Liverpool’s newest signing Sepp van den Berg won’t be in the Reds squad to face Tranmere Rovers on Thursday, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The newspaper claims that the 17-year-old won’t yet be able to feature for Jurgen Klopp’s team due to having not yet received international clearance.

Supporters were hoping to see the new man in action against the League One side, with the Reds set to get their pre season preparations underway at Prenton Park.

The Dutchman signed from PEC Zwolle last month in a £1.3million deal.

OPINION

This is a shame, because this would have been a fantastic opportunity for Van Den Berg to get a run-out in front of a load of local supporters. Even if they were a mix of Tranmere and Liverpool fans, a friendly at Prenton Park is likely to be more welcoming than at anywhere other than Anfield. It’s unknown when his international clearance will be granted, but everyone connected with Liverpool will be hoping it’s sooner rather than later. He’s a hugely exciting prospect and so the supporters will be eager to see what he can do as soon as possible. Unfortunately it won’t be in Thursday night’s game, even if it’s expected that several other youngsters will be given a chance to impress the Reds boss. Klopp, too, would likely have liked to get Van Den Berg playing alongside his teammates as quickly as he could, but there you go. This isn’t the end of the world, even if it is slightly disappointing.
