Mark Wright has urged Liverpool to make two signings this summer to improve their squad depth.

The former Reds’ captain believes Klopp must strengthen two key areas should he wish to beat Manchester City to their first ever Premier League title next season.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Wright said: “I think it would be nice for all of us on the outside to see some players going in. A goal-scoring midfielder might be good and maybe another striker so you can change things around.”

The former Borussia Dortmund manager has been reported to be targeting youth players this summer, with the only expected signing being a winger.

Klopp has stuck to that so far, with the only arrival 17-year-old defender Sepp van den Berg. The latest youngster to be linked with a move to Anfield is Fulham midfielder Harvey Elliot.

OPINION

The former Liverpool skipper has a point, the Reds surely need to strengthen their squad depth over the transfer window. Missing out on the Premier League title by only a single point will surely have hurt them last season, with a couple of introductions possibly all it will take to turn it around. However, Klopp has introduced a fast-paced style at Anfield, one his squad have finally mastered and are now reaping the benefits of – especially at home. The Reds’ dominance is highlighted by Virgil Van Dijk averaging 85.9 passes per game at home in the league last season. Roberto Firmino will most likely lead the line next season, and with Divock Origi being offered a new deal, and Klopp ready to give an improved role to youngster Rhian Brewster, another striker shouldn’t be walking through the Anfield door anytime soon.
