Liverpool attacker Paul Glatzel can rest assured he is on the fast-track to the first team despite an injury blow based on Jurgen Klopp insisting that his rehabilitation takes place at Melwood.

Liverpool’s official website confirmed on Wednesday that the 18-year-old forward had successfully undergone surgery after sustaining damage to his knee ligament in the pre-season friendly against Tranmere Rovers.

The Reds’ official statement on Glatzel’s successfully surgery shared that it was Klopp who had specifically requested that Glatzel did his recovery at the club’s first-team Melwood, which is very telling.

After all the last time Klopp requested that a youngster did his recovery from injury at Melwood was when he insisted that Rhian Brewster did his rehab there, after injuring his ankle while playing for the U-23s in January 2018. (Source: Evening Standard)

Considering that Brewster is expected to play a key role in the first-team in the upcoming campaign, as per the Evening Standard, now that he has returned to action; surely Klopp making a similar request means Glatzel could return from his spell on the sidelines to find himself featuring for the senior side.

The 18-year-old has scored 21 goals in 27 outings for the Reds’ U-18s and captained his side to victory in the FA Youth Cup in his latest season, before making the step up for the U-23s.

Glatzel clearly did enough for the U-23s before the season to catch Klopp’s attention, as after all the manager did hand him his first appearance for the first-team against Tranmere, it’s just a shame it ended in injury for him.

However given that Klopp has made a special request about the teenager and it’s a similar situation to how he handled Brewster’s injury, surely Glaztel can be comforted by the fact he looks destined for the first-team sooner rather than later.
