Barcelona forward Antoine Griezmann has revealed his reasons for his admiration of Liverpool.

The French international revealed in an interview with Sky Sports that he prefers La Liga to the Premier League because of the weather before going on to praise the Reds.

“In terms of teams, I admire Liverpool because of the fans,” Griezmann told Sky Sports. “Hopefully one day they will win the league again.”

The 28-year-old recently completed a move to the Nou Camp and also mentioned in the interview how he would like to join up with fellow French international and Arsenal forward, Alexander Lacazette.

Liverpool had an average home attendance of 52,983 last season, which made Anfield 98% full on average – the ninth highest percentage in the Premier League [SoccerStats].

OPINION

There is no doubting that Liverpool have one of the most passionate fan bases, not just in England but in the entire world. Their global presence is incredible, and you only have to look at the turnout to their pre-season tour of the USA to prove that. Some of the atmospheres created at Anfield last season were unforgettable – none more so than the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona where the Reds’ overturned a three-goal deficit to reach the final in Madrid. That is the game that most likely caught the attention of Griezmann the most, who was probably cheering on the team he was set to join the season after. Just like the Spanish giants, the 28-year-old was blown away by the intimidating atmosphere created by the famous Anfield Kop end. This doesn’t really mean much right now, but should Griezmann ever want to switch to the Premier League, I’m sure Liverpool would welcome him with open arms to experience the atmosphere first hand.
