OPINION

Liverpool announced on their official Twitter account on Wednesday that attacker Divock Origi has signed a new long-term contract with the club. This is the news that many Reds fans will have been waiting all summer to hear, having witnessed the Belgian international play a key role as the club claimed their sixth European Cup success at the start of June. The 24-year-old’s previous deal had only a further year to run, by which point he would have been able to leave Anfield for free. However, he is now locked in for a long time to come. Origi is the perfect player for the role he is currently being tasked with performing: providing back up to the Reds’ fearsome front three of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane. You’re not really going to get someone better than the former Lille man to perform that role. It seems that he is content with his lot and happy to be part of what Jurgen Klopp is continuing to build on Merseyside. And, clearly, the Liverpool supporters are over the moon with this new deal, as well.
