OPINION
Ordinarily, you would expect a side in Liverpool’s position to have gone all out in the transfer market this summer. After picking up a sixth European title in June, and having pushed Manchester City right the way to the brink in the Premier League title race, the Reds are in the strongest position they have been in for quite some time. Most clubs, given the circumstances, would have used the transfer window to double down and build a side capable of finally ending the wait for domestic glory, but instead, Jurgen Klopp has opted to keep the faith in his current squad, and to exercise a fair amount of restraint in the market. And it’s fair to say that his approach has frustrated some fans. One player who has been linked with a move to Anfield has been Nicolas Pepe, as reported by L’Equipe via Get French Football News. The 24-year-old managed an impressive 3.1 shots per game and 2.7 dribbles per match in Ligue 1 last season [Whoscored], and looked for all the world as if he could be the kind of player who would fit seamlessly into Klopp’s side. Now, however, according to Gianluca Di Marzio, it would appear that he is on the cusp of a move to Napoli, and it’s fair to say that a fair few Kopites aren’t too happy about the update.
