Liverpool kicked off their pre-season tour of America in the early hours of Saturday morning against Borussia Dortmund and didn’t get off to a winning start. Despite Rhian Brewster and Harry Wilson both getting on the scoresheet against the German giants, the Reds slipped to a 3-2 victory. While wins and losses don’t really matter in pre-season, it seems many Reds fans tuned in expecting to see good performances from the players who clearly have something to prove ahead of the new season. One of these players is defender Nathaniel Clyne, after all, he was so far out the first-team picture last season that he was loaned to Bournemouth in January for the second half of the 2018/19 season. However, the right-back, who earns £70,000-a-week currently (Source: Spotrac), didn’t seize his chance. Clyne was constantly caught napping during the match, especially when Paco Alacer put Dortmund ahead in the third minute, and it didn’t go unnoticed. Many Liverpool fans ripped the 28-year-old apart on social media, with several asking the Reds to get rid of him. When you consider his latest pre-season display and the fact he only averaged a rating of 6.43, as per WhoScored, across the 14 league outings he made for Bournemouth last season, Clyne should be sweating over his Anfield future.
