Crouch blown away by front three

Peter Crouch has hailed Liverpool’s front three of Roberto Firmino, Mo Salah, and Sadio Mane, claiming that the trio “dazzle” him.

The Reds have won their opening two games of the new season, with Salah scoring in the 4-1 win over Norwich City last Friday, and Mane bagging a brace in the UEFA Super Cup in midweek.

And Crouch has been quick to praise all three of Jurgen Klopp’s forwards after that result.

Writing in a column for the Daily Mail, he said: “The European Super Cup was a thriller and I know what it will have meant to Liverpool’s players to have won in Istanbul. I was at the club in 2005 when we beat CSKA Moscow in the Super Cup and it was a big deal for everyone.

“There is some talk about Liverpool’s defence not being right but I watched the front three dazzle once again.

“Mo Salah looks so sharp but Sadio Mane was brilliant. He is primed for another huge season.”

OPINION

Crouch is right to identify the front three as the most important aspect of Liverpool’s success so far this term. Just like last season, it looks like the trio are building up a head of steam, and if they continue in this vein, who’s to say how much they can achieve? Mane in particular has looked very dangerous. He many have only made a 16 minutes cameo against Norwich City on the opening day, but he was razor sharp against Chelsea in midweek, and without his goalscoring turn, the Reds would have struggled to win that one. You would expect him to start against former club Southampton on Saturday, and if he can find his rhythm early, he could do some serious damage to the Saints. The only thing that could throw a spanner in the works would be his busy summer at the African Cup of Nations catching up with him, but it’s hard to imagine that happening any time soon.
