Jordan Henderson has delivered a message to teammate Adam Lallana via Instagram.

Both players featured in Wednesday’s 3-1 preseason win over Lyon, with Lallana starting the match and Henderson coming on later in the game.

Posting on his personal account after the match, Lallana uploaded a photo with the caption: “Pre-season is about working hard, coming together and being ready. And we are ready.

“A positive way to wrap up the friendlies… and now on to Wembley”.

Replying to that image, club captain Henderson simply put two fire emojis.

OPINION

You really hope for his sake that Lallana is able to keep himself injury free and available this season. Jurgen Klopp is clearly a huge admirer of the former Southampton man, but competition for places is tough in that Liverpool midfield, and he has little hope of establishing himself as a regular if he can’t put together a string of performances without picking up a knock. It would appear, based on the evidence of preseason, that the manager has tinkered a little with the role he wants Lallana to fill for his side, and the slightly deeper position he has been utilised in allows him to dictate the tempo of play a little more. His pass completion rate of 82.1% last season shows that he is up to that task, and if he can improve on his average of 0.7 key passes per game, as per Whoscored, he could become a really vital option for the Reds. First though, he needs to get his fitness sorted.
