Trent Alexander-Arnold looks as if he has been playing in the Premier League for a decade, according to former Liverpool defender Glen Johnson.

The 20-year-old defender has established himself as the Reds’ first choice right-back in recent times, as well as forcing his way into Gareth Southgate’s England side, and Johnson has been thoroughly impressed by his development.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, he said: “He has been brilliant, really good.

“What has impressed me the most is obviously that he has played in massive games and he has played as cool and as calculated as you like.

“For such a young lad, he is doing great and looks like he has been in the Premier League for 10 years already.”

OPINION

You have to agree with Johnson on this one. It can be really easy to forget just how young Alexander-Arnold is sometimes, and the defender plays with a maturity and assurance far beyond his years. The 20-year-old is a top quality player with the potential and the ability to become one of the very best players in his position in the world, and he is already well on his way. The youngster averaged 2.1 tackles and 2.1 clearances per match in the Premier League last season, as per Whoscored, but just as impressive is his ability to influence matches going forward too. Alexander-Arnold registered 12 Premier League assists last season, and averaged 1.7 key passes per match [Whoscored]. The youngster has a massive future ahead of him, and it is surely only a matter of time before he has the right-back spot all to himself on the international stage too.
