Liverpool could be set to make in excess of £100 million per match day following the club’s announcement that it will expand Anfield’s capacity to one 60,000, according to the Echo.

The Reds revealed new plans to renovate the Anfield Road stand on Thursday, as reported by Sky Sports, and if all goes as expected, it could lead to vast profits.

A piece in the Echo reads: “The club clearly have one eye on taking revenues from match days to near or above the £100million mark in the near future, putting them alongside some of the biggest match day earners in the Premier League.

“Match day income doubled in the seven years from 2010/11 to 2017/18 – rising from £41million to £81million – aided in the last two of those seasons by the redevelopment of the Main Stand at Anfield.”

OPINION

This could be a fantastic move from Liverpool. The Reds are in the richest of purple patches right now, and Jurgen Klopp’s tenure as manager has helped transform them into one of the premier sides in world football again. The demand for the Anfield brand has never been higher, and so it makes sense to capitalise on that demand by making the ground even bigger than it already is. The numbers don’t lie, and the fact that the Reds could be bringing in that kind of ridiculous money at every home game can only be a good thing in terms of helping the Reds to keep growing on the pitch. If they can keep increasing revenue, and continue to put that money to good use in terms of signing new and exciting players, then there is no reason why this golden spell that Klopp has brought about cannot keep going for a while to come. Rejuvenating the Anfield Road end stand would be a smart way of continuing that process.
