COMMENTARY
Liverpool may have gone into the half-time break against Southampton with only a narrow 1-0 lead, but that doesn’t mean Reds fans didn’t have a reason to be cheery. A section of Liverpool fans raved about Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s first-half display, with one supporter even claiming he was on fire against his former side. Considering that the midfielder had a bit of a nightmare against Chelsea on Wednesday, he played only 45 minutes of the match before being subbed off as he looked uncomfortable on the flank, it’s good to see him instantly recover from a disappointing display. Oxlade-Chamberlain was trying to make things happen against the Saints, he did go close with an effort on goal, and made sure to help out his side defensively as he did help Trent Alexander-Arnold out at the back when Southampton looked to be building up to a promising attack on goal. In his 2018/19 season, Oxlade-Chamberlain managed to play only 19 minutes of Premier League action, as per Transfermarkt, and it would be a huge boost if he could excel this season as he may be able to help the Reds have enough to win the league title this time around.
