COMMENTARY
Many Liverpool fans tore into Georginio Wijnaldum for his display in the 2-1 victory over Southampton on Saturday. It seems many Reds supporters believe the Dutch midfielder didn’t do enough to help his side rack up all three points, despite them doing just that, as several moaned about how he didn’t really make much of an impact. In fact, one Liverpool fan was so unimpressed with Wijnaldum that they made it clear that they didn’t want him to be offered a new contract anytime soon. While Wijnaldum didn’t have a game to remember, he didn’t deserve the level of abuse that came his way on social media. The 28-year-old plays an important part in Jurgen Klopp’s side as he does the dirty work that needs to be done in order to see his more creative teammates able to surge forward. In his 2018/19 league campaign, Wijnaldum played 35 times, averaging a rating of 6.89, as per WhoScored, and impressively had a pass completion rate of 91.1%. If the 28-year-old could have a similar season, if not better, then the Liverpool fans below may soon sign up to be members of his fan club.
