Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren sent a heartfelt message to former teammate Philippe Coutinho after he joined Bayern Munich.

The former Liverpool playmaker completed a move to Bayern Munich from Barcelona on Monday, with the German club confirming on their official website that they had initially taken the 27-year-old on loan, but that their deal with Barcelona included an option to buy him.

Coutinho took to his personal Instagram to celebrate joining the Bundesliga club and revealed he would do everything he can to help them win trophies.

“Today is the beginning of another important part of my career,” wrote the Brazilian.

“I’m very happy proud and honoured to be part of this great club @fcbayern.

“I will do everything possible to help the team, conquer many trophies and I hope that together we will celebrate a lot in the year to come.

“Thank you all! That GOD bless this new chapter.”

Coutinho’s post, which included a picture of him smiling, saw Lovren send him a message in order to reveal that he was happy to see him smiling once again and that he wished him all the best.

“Well done brate (brother), happy to see you smiling. All the best,” wrote the Reds defender via his verified Instagram account.

OPINION

Lovren’s message to Coutinho is very sweet and it’s clear to see that the pair have a close bond even if they no longer play for the same team. This is shown by the fact that not only does the Reds star admit it’s good to see Coutinho happy once again, but he refers to him as his brother. While Coutinho’s exit from Liverpool, saw him leave under somewhat of a cloud, it’s fair to say there are many Liverpool fans who will be rooting for the Brazilian to do well at his new club. The 27-year-old was a fan favourite during his time at Anfield as he racked up 54 goals and 45 assists in the 201 appearances he made for the club, and he went close to helping the Reds win the Europa League in the 2015/16 season. However, for one reason or another, Coutinho’s time at Barcelona didn’t see him become a beloved member of the club’s squad. The Brazilian managed only 21 goals and 11 assists in the 76 appearances he made for the Spanish club, and before the 2018/19 campaign ended, he saw himself struggling to get in the team. In fact, Coutinho only completed 90 minutes on four occasions out of Barcelona’s last 20 league games of their 2018/19 campaign.
