Dejan Lovren has sent a two-word Instagram message to Liverpool teammate Xherdan Shaqiri.

The Swiss midfielder picked up a calf injury on international duty last month, and only made his first appearance of preseason in Tuesday’s 3-1 win over Lyon.

Taking to social media after the match, he posted a photo of himself with the caption: “Happy to be back on the pitch”.

Responding to that post, Lovren replied: “Jaaaaaaa brudiii”, which translates from German to “Yes bro”.

OPINION

It’s great to see Shaqiri back on a football pitch. The little Swiss such an explosive talent, and he has the ability to be a real game changer for the Reds. Granted, he probably won’t start most matches, but there aren’t many teams in the Premier League who can boast a talent like his as an options from the bench. His pass completion rate of 82% last season, plus his average of 1.3 key passes and 1.5 shots on goal per game [Whoscored] make him an ideal player to come into the fray and inject some impetus in the closing stages of a match, or indeed to compound a result against a tiring defence. It’s easy to forget that Shaqiri is still only 27, given that it feels as if he has been around forever, and if he can get another good season under his belt this time around, there’s no reason why he can’t be an important player for the Reds for years to come.
