Lazio midfielder Lucas Leiva sent a heartfelt message to Liverpool on the anniversary of his Reds debut.
Liverpool’s official Twitter account tweeted earlier in the day that it was 12 years since the 32-year-old midfield enforcer had made his debut for the club and described him as a true fan favourite.
“#OnThisDay in 2007, @LucasLeiva87 made his debut for the Reds, a true fan favourite,” wrote the club.
Lucas replied to the club’s tweet in order to say Liverpool forever and reveal he was happy that Jurgen Klopp’s side were currently doing so well.
“LFC forever … happy to see the club doing so well #YNWA,” wrote the midfielder via his verified Twitter account.

OPINION
Leiva was a true fan favourite and despite not playing for the club anymore, his tweet likely had many Liverpool fans swooning over the fact that he still holds the club in his heart. The 32-year-old played 346 times for the Reds, helping them win the League Cup in the 2011/12 season before departing Anfield in order to join Lazio in 2017. Lucas has proven to be as useful to Lazio as he was to the Reds as he has racked up 86 appearances during his time so far with them, and has helped win the Italian Cup as well as the Italian Super Cup. However, as of yet, Lucas hasn’t featured for Lazio this season and was an unused substitute during their 3-0 win over Sampdoria at the weekend. Although while Lucas didn’t play a part against Sampdoria, it’s worth noting his future still looks secure at Lazio, as, after all, his current contract isn’t set to expire until 2022.
