Sadio Mane has revealed that he is “a bit jealous” that Liverpool did not sign his compatriot Ismaila Sarr this summer.

The Senegalese 21-year-old joined Watford over the summer from French side Stade Rennais.

And Mane has admitted that he wishes the Reds had made a move.

Speaking to The Athletic, he said: “Wow, a bit jealous, because I won’t see him in Liverpool.

“He’s rapid. I think defenders will struggle

Last time I was speaking to Robbo [Andy Robertson] I said, ‘Watford have a really good player. I will need to help you more otherwise Ismaila Sarr will kill you, because he is a good dribbler and very, very fast.’”

OPINION

It’s easy to see why Mane wanted Sarr at Liverpool. There 21-year-old has a shedload of potential, and is already looking as if he could be a big hit in the Premier League. He has yet to play for Watford yet, but he was really pulling up trees in France last year. Eight goals and six assists is impressive enough, but his rate of 1.5 shots on goal per game, 1.1 key passes, and 1.8 successful dribbles per match, as per Whoscored, hint at a player with a big future, and the fact that he already has Europa League experience is a big draw too. Watford have done well to land him, and if he can continue on his current trajectory then there is nothing to suggest that he cannot be a wonderfully shrewd piece of business. As for Mane’s dream of seeing him at Anfield, stranger things have happened…
