Gary Neville has admitted that he prefers Liverpool’s front-three to Manchester City’s.

Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino have been a huge factor in Liverpool’s rise under Jurgen Klopp and between them, in the opening four games of the season, they have scored five goals and supplied four assists.

Neville has heaped praise on the way that Mane has returned to the starting line-up after a long summer with a goal against Southampton and claims that he reckons that Liverpool’s attack is better than Man City’s regular front-three of Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero and Bernardo Silva.

“It’s a great goal from Mane,” said Neville on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football this week [10:35pm].

“Obviously he’s had the short rest in the summer and he was left out of the first game but the way in which they win the ball back high up the pitch, the front-three are absolutely sensational.

“I’ve said it time and time again, I think I prefer them to Man City’s.

“They continue to deliver and they continue to be there every single week.”

OPINION

Liverpool’s front-three work so well together. If you take one of them out then the other two don’t perform so well. Just look at the impact that Firmino made when he came off the bench in the Super Cup final against Chelsea last week. As soon as he came on he was combining with Mane and helped the Reds play a lot better than they did when he was not on the pitch. Manchester City’s front-three is not as set in stone as Liverpool’s. While it is usually Aguero up front supported by Sterling and Silva, other players like Riyad Mahrez and Gabriel Jesus regularly get into the attack, which definitely weakens it. Last season’s title race was one of the best that the Premier League has ever seen and we will be very lucky if they get that close to each other again this term. Liverpool may have the better attack but Man City’s midfield is far superior and their defences aren’t too different, with the Reds perhaps possessing the better one just because of Virgil van Dijk.
