Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain sent a message to a fan who claimed that the Reds’ official Instagram was overhyping the 26-year-old’s flick against Southampton on Saturday.

Liverpool’s verified Instagram account shared a clip of Oxlade-Chamberlain breaking out the skills move against Southampton, calling his flick “unreal” in the process, and not all supporters responded to the footage positively.

One fan, Jack Atkinson, commented on the video to acknowledge that while the midfielder’s flick was good, the club were overhyping the moment a bit too much.

“It’s good but overhyping it bit much,” wrote the supporter, via their Instagram.

Oxlade-Chamberlain saw the fan’s comment and responded with a cheeky one-word message to share he agreed.

“Agreed,” replied the Liverpool star, via his verified Instagram.

OPINION

While Oxlade-Chamberlain was being cheeky by popping up to agree with the fan who claimed the Reds’ Instagram admin was overhyping the player’s flick, the supporter actually had a point. The 26-year-old’s neat bit of footwork was lovely in the 2-1 win against Southampton, but it was hardly worthy of a social media post being dedicated it, nor was it worthy of being called “unreal.” However, while it’s debatable whether that moment in the match was worthy of jaws dropping, what isn’t debatable, is how good Oxlade-Chamberlain performed in the 2-1 win over Southampton. The 26-year-old touched the ball 55 times, seemingly popping up all over the pitch, had a decent pass completion rate of 89.5 %, got himself into a decent shooting position twice and averaged a rating of 7.20 (Source: WhoScored). The 26-year-old submitted a terrible performance against Chelsea in midweek, with Jurgen Klopp bizarrely deploying him on the flank, so it was good to see him instantly bounce back from that disappointment and impress.
