beIN SPORTS presenter Richard Keys has patted himself on the back for predicting the meteoric rise of left back Andrew Robertson at Liverpool.

Eyebrows were raised when the Scotland captain was brought to Anfield from lowly Hull City, but the 25-year-old has proved to be a rip-roaring success on Merseyside.

Keys is revelling in his unparalleled clairvoyance…: “A couple of years ago I said that no-one would ever spend a better £8m than Liverpool had on Andrew Robertson,” he wrote on his own website.

“Inevitably I was asked if I’d lost my mind. Eight million on a left back from relegated Hull? I wasn’t wrong though was I? What a player.”

OPINION

There’s no doubt that Keys does smugness better than almost anyone in football. He has one of those faces which is just irritating, particularly when he’s claiming he got something right way before everybody else cottoned on. Look, who knows whether he did actually predict Robertson would be a big success? Somebody else can spend the time tracking down that particular quote of Keys’s. Still, we’ll take him on his word, here. If he really did say that nobody would ever spend a better £8million than Liverpool did on Robertson then he was remarkably ahead of his time. There were plenty of eyebrows raised when Jurgen Klopp brought the tireless Scotsman to Anfield, but he has proved to be an unbelievable signing. In terms of value for money, he’s up there with any footballer currently playing in the Premier League. £8million for someone who is the best in the world at their position? Yes please.
