Former England international and Sky Sports pundit Paul Robinson has predicted a “tough test” for Liverpool when they visit Burnley this weekend.

The Reds are looking to keep up their perfect record in the Premier League at Turf Moor, having beaten Arsenal 3-1 in their last outing, while Burnley will hope to bounce back from a shock League Cup defeat to League One Sunderland.

With the Clarets sitting in sixth after three league games, former Burnley stopper Robinson, who is a regular pundit on Sky Sports, says that he believes his old side can get a point against the table toppers and end their 100 per cent run this season.

Robinson told Fansbet’s blog: “My old team Burnley have a very tough test in the last game of the day 17.30 kick off against Liverpool.

“Burnley were unlucky last week to concede a 97th minute equaliser from the penalty spot after a very good performance away at Wolves.

“Burnley are sitting 6th in the table and will prove a tough test for Liverpool with Sean Dyche’s style of mixed football.  I’m going to stick my neck out and back the Clarets for a hard-fought home point.”

Opinion

A bold prediction from Robinson, who might not have many people following him with his prediction on Saturday afternoon. Yes, Burnley might be flying high in the table but they have still won, drawn one and lost one game each. Some might argue that playing Liverpool early in the season, before they have settled down and got into full swing, might be the best chance you have of getting anything out of the clash – but you try telling that to Arsenal. The history books are not exactly pleasant reading for the Clarets either, with just one win and eight defeats in their last 10 games against the Reds, a run which stretches back over the last decade. This game finished 3-1 one to Liverpool last season, James Milner, Roberto Firmino and Xherdan Shaqiri scoring for Klopp’s side. If Burnley are going to get anything out of this, they need to remain resolute at the back, although even that might not be enough to stop a resurgent Liverpool attack.
