Kent threatens to down tools

Ryan Kent is desperate to force a loan move to Rangers through before the Scottish transfer window shuts on September 2 and he’s willing to down tools to get his way.

That’s according to Daily Record journalist Keith Jackson, anyway, who said the information had come from sources close to the player.

It also coincided with Ryan Kent being dropped from the Under-23s squad to face Chelsea on Monday.

The player is in the middle of an impasse between Liverpool and Rangers. Liverpool want to sell him. Rangers want him on loan. Jurgen Klopp decided that Kent would only leave this summer on a permanent move and wants £7m for him.

That doesn’t seem a lot for a player who interested Leeds over the summer and starred for Rangers last season. He came back from Scotland with two Young Player of the Year awards under his arm.

However, Rangers don’t seem to have the money and are looking for a compromise solution.

There’s still plenty of time for a move to happen and it would be a shame to see a player like Kent forced to play for the Under-23s.

However, if there’s any truth in the report of him downing tools, he’s playing a dangerous game at Liverpool. Liverpool pay his wages and will ultimately decide what happens to him. They’re under no obligation to let him go out on loan again and it’s not Liverpool’s fault that Rangers can’t afford a £7m valuation.

Kent doesn’t hold any power in this relationship and if he does start agitating behind the scenes then it’s only going to harm his career. Clubs don’t look fondly on players who are labeled as troublemakers.

What Kent needs to do is train hard, play hard and hope that he can land a move before the summer transfer window shuts. His Liverpool contract runs until 2022 so he’s got a long way to go before he can move for free.
