If you had told Liverpool fans this time six months ago that they would be fuming that Naby Keita had been omitted from their first Premier League starting lineup of the season, most would have laughed in your face. The 24-year-old took his time to get accustomed with the English game, and for much of last term, he looked to be a shadow of the player that they thought they were getting from RB Leipzig last summer. Towards the end of last season he started to show signs of the player that he could be, and started to get close to the kind of form that saw him register an average of 2.5 successful dribbles and 1.4 key passes per match in the Bundesliga in the 2017/18 campaign, as per Whoscored. Injury brought his efforts to an abrupt end, but if he can pick up where he left off before getting sidelined, then the Reds could have a very special player on their hands. Seeing him left out against Norwich City will have annoyed some fans, but there is still plenty of time for him to make his mark on the Premier League. No doubt he’ll be desperate to seize that opportunity this time around.
