OPINION
Harvey Elliott is without doubt one of the most promising 16-year-olds in English football and every time he plays for Liverpool’s Under-23s there are going to be fans watching him closely and praying that he shows the promise that he has been tagged with. Elliott become the youngest player in Premier League history when he featured for Fulham last season and his summer switch to Anfield has only led to expectations being raised. It would seem that for the Liverpool fans who watched the Under-23s in their 3-0 defeat to Chelsea on Monday were happy with what they saw from the young attacker. Chelsea were always likely to win that game. Belgium international Michy Batshuayi scored twice and assisted another goal while Antonio Rudiger also featured for the London side’s reserves. However Elliott seemed to step up and deliver a solid display, which is very encouraging considering how strong Chelsea’s team was and how young Liverpool’s was.

U23’s getting torn a new one by Chelsea as they head for their third defeat out of three and with Van Den Berg, Brewster, Hoever, Jones and Elliott amongst others all playing maybe not as close to ready for the first team as we thought
