OPINION
Although Liverpool’s Under-23s side picked up their first win of the season on Monday night, it was not exactly an easy victory for the young Anfield aces. Their 4-2 win against Southampton was littered with defensive errors and some fans on Twitter thought that summer signing Sepp van den Berg played a key role in the side conceding twice in the Premier League 2 match. Van den Berg, 17, is clearly highly rated by Liverpool after he was brought in by Jurgen Klopp in the last transfer window but he is yet to get into the senior squad and has had to make do with a spot in the Under-23s. After proving to be sloppy in possession and prone to errors on Monday night, you can see why Klopp is yet to call on the Dutch kid in the first-team. A performance like that from van den Berg could make Liverpool think twice about selling Dejan Lovren because it does look as though he is some way off from being able to provide back-up in the Premier League.

Tuned in for like the past 5 mins of the LFC U23 game… Van den Berg isn’t looking too great.

No doubt he will develop into a top quality defender. But talk of Van den Berg been the same level as Lovren is premature.

Van Den Berg and Hoever getting destroyed at u23 level, but people think they’re better than Lovren

But they did get a little bit better in the last 30 minutes maybe. Defending errors have made our U23 team concede a couple of goals this season. VDB and Hoever surely won’t be satisfied with their recent performance.
