Curtis Jones may have been wearing the captain’s armband in the Under-23s’ 3-0 defeat to Chelsea on Monday night, but that did not stop some Liverpool fans from blasting the young midfielder for his performance. Jones, 18, lined up on the left-wing but failed to impress a section of supporters on Twitter with his attacking play. However this is definitely very harsh on the young England Under-18 international. Chelsea’s Under-23s consisted of top first-team players like Antonio Rudiger and Michy Batshuayi, who scored twice in the Premier League 2 showdown. Jones and his team-mates were always going to have less of the ball and fewer opportunities than what they were hoping. It’s been a tough start to the season for Liverpool’s Under-23s. They have lost 3-2 to Oldham, lost 4-0 to Tottenham and now 3-0 to Chelsea. Hopefully they can improve soon so that Jurgen Klopp is given something to think about when it comes to picking some of the players for his first-team.
