Jurgen Klopp’s side eventually won the match in a penalty shootout but they had to work hard to get to that point and at times, the Reds’ midfield did look weak and leggy. However to accuse Fabinho of being “lazy” or dropping a “0/10” performance simply isn’t right. The £100,000-a-week [Spotrac] midfielder, throughout the 90 minutes, but in a great shift for Liverpool. Even when he was struggling with cramp at the end of the game, he still stood up to take a penalty and help the Merseyside club to victory. According to stats by WhoScored, Fabinho won six tackles in that match – more than any other player on the pitch. He also completed 86 per cent of his passes, which is more than what N’Golo Kante managed and he was widely seen as the man of the match in Istanbul. These Liverpool fans have been way over the top in their criticism of the Brazilian midfielder.
