OPINION
James Milner did not have the best of first halves in Liverpool’s Super Cup clash with Chelsea, and fans on Twitter have made it clear that they are not happy with the 33-year-old’s performance. Milner has been Mr. Reliable for the Reds in the last few years but he was far from that in the opening 45 minutes in Istanbul. He was sloppy in possession, was nowhere near Chelsea’s attacking players when they got forward and just lacked the dynamism in the midfield that Georginio Wijnaldum would normally supply. Milner’s getting on now, that’s no secret and the next few months are bound to be crucial in terms of his Liverpool career as his contract at Anfield expires at the end of the season. Milner might be in a fight to land himself a new deal, so he needs to step up his performances. It’s all well and good saying that he’s experienced, he’s versatile and he’s a great pro. He needs to show he can perform against top sides.
