Liverpool legend John Aldridge has claimed that the Reds’ front three had their worst games in some time in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Sheffield United.

Jurgen Klopp’s men struggled to all three points at Bramall Lane, and Aldridge believes Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane were all poor against the Blades.

“Big struggle today,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account. “Great to win playing poorly and the front 3 having their worst game together for sometime, and a clean sheet.

“YNWA.”

OPINION

This certainly wasn’t the finest outing of Messrs Salah, Firmino and Mane’s careers. All three men looked rather sluggish, with the entire Reds team stuck in a worrying malaise for much of the game. The latter had a great chance to score during the second half, but crashed his effort against the post, while the other two failed to produce much positivity either. When you look at the statistics, it makes for damning reading. As per WhoScored.com, Firmino failed to have a single shot all game, on target or otherwise. Mane and Salah, meanwhile, had four each. Two of the Egyptian’s were on target, but only one of Mane’s. Then there’s key passes, just two between them. Salah in particular was incredibly wasteful with the ball. The former Roma man had a staggering five unsuccessful touches on Saturday, while Firmino had two and Mane one. The fact that each man ended up with a WhoScored rating for the game between 6.57 and 6.82 tells you all you need to know. They were very much off the boil, here.
