Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has called on disgruntled Reds teenager Bobby Duncan to make an ‘unreserved public apology’ to the club.

The 18-year-old forward is at the centre of a very public fall put between him, his agent and the football club. Now, Fowler has demanded he accept he’s in the wrong and say sorry to the Reds.

“I know his dad Rob very well. And I can tell you that all he wants is to see his talented teenage son banging in goals in front of the Kop,” he wrote in a column for The Daily Mirror. “I am desperately sad to say that it isn’t going to happen. Not unless Bobby does the right thing and issues an unreserved public apology to Liverpool Football Club.

“It might also be wise for him to dispense with the services of his agent – or at the very least make sure he tethers Saif Rubie to a very short leash. I would be surprised if he hasn’t already apologised to Jurgen Klopp, sporting director Michael Edwards and academy director Alex Inglethorpe for his agent’s outrageous conduct.

“But the important thing is to show his remorse publicly. Bridges have been burnt. But they can be repaired. After scoring 183 goals for Liverpool, I’d like to think I can offer a small piece of advice to Bobby that might help his career. Say you’re sorry.”

OPINION

Fowler hits the nail on the head, here. Clearly there is some discord between Duncan’s agent and Liverpool as a club, but it would be a surprise if that discontent actually extends to the player himself. He just wants to play football as any young player does, but he needs to be patient and realise he is at one of the biggest clubs in the world. Duncan needs to be careful, because he’s risking throwing all his hard work away because of a dodgy agent. Rubie is obviously a bit of a loose cannon, and his comments this week have only heaped fuel on the fire. He’s not done his client any favours, in all honesty. The best thing Duncan could do at this point would be to get rid of his agent and apologise to Liverpool, as Fowler says. If he does that then he will be welcomed back into the fold. Klopp has already said that the club wants to keep him. He needs to really get his head down now and fulfil all the potential he has shown since he joined the club. It’s not too late.
