Liverpool are not playing well enough to beat Napoli on Tuesday night, according to Daniel Gabbidon.

The Reds currently sit top of the Premier League table with a 100% win record, but former Wales international Gabbidon is unsure of how they will fair in their opening Champions League clash in Italy.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, he said: “I’m not sure Liverpool are playing well enough to win in Naples tonight and that sounds ludicrously stupid considering their sitting on maximum points in the Premier League!

“Why do I feel this way?”

OPINION

Even Gabbidon seems baffled by his own verdict, and it’s easy to see why. Liverpool are the only side in the topflight with a 100% record, and have chalked up five consecutive wins without breaking too much of a sweat at all. In those five matches they have averaged five goals a game, and have conceded just four times. The defence, so important in the run to a sixth European title last season, looks as solid as ever, while the from three of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino already have 10 goals and six assists between them. In fact, the only position in which the Reds look notably weaker is between the sticks, with Adrian drafted in for the injured Alisson Becker. The veteran Spaniard has made an error leading directly to a goal every 16.25 matches during his spell in the Premier League, as per the league themselves, and the hope will be that he doesn’t find a way of adding to that stat during his Champions League debut on Tuesday.
