Liverpool are among a number of clubs tracking the progress of Villareal winger Samuel Chukwueze after his rise through the ranks in Spain, according to Goal.

The online football news outlet claim that the Reds are just one of the clubs across Europe who have been scouting the 20-year-old Nigerian, the youngster having established himself as a mainstay for both club and country over the last 12 months.

The right-winger is known in Spain for his electric pace and quality dribbling ability, with a proven ability to contribute a final product in attack with six goals and two assists in his 29 La Liga outings.

He has revealed that Dutch hero Arjen Robben is his inspiration and that he has tried to emulate the former Bayern Munich by regularly watching videos of his performances.

Opinion

There is no doubting that Liverpool could do with another attacker or two in their squad just to alleviate some of the pressure the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane find themselves under at times. A youngster with top-flight experience in Spain is definitely not the worst signing the Reds could make to offer some backup to their first-team talents. It would give them the chance to mould and develop Chukwueze’s attributes and qualities in the way they want. Defences are terrified of players who have lightning pace and the ability to dribble confidently and that is exactly what Chukwueze possesses. Arjen Robben might not have set the world alight in England but there is no doubting he was one of the best in his prime and if Liverpool could snap up someone cut from the same cloth then they would already be onto a winner.
