Liverpool players have been raving about veteran goalkeeper Adrian behind closed doors, according to Football Insider.

The Spaniard has been drafted in to replace the injured Alisson Becker in the opening stages of the new league season after having signed from West Ham during the summer, and it is understood that he has won his new colleagues over after some initial scepticism.

The report suggests that the Anfield dressing room has even been convinced to the extent that many Kop players now believe Adrian is an upgrade on former deputy Simon Mignolet, who left the club for Club Brugges in the transfer window.

OPINION

Credit where credit is due, Adrian has done a fine job at Liverpool thus far. With the exception of his howler against Southampton last month – a mistake that gifted Danny Ings a tap in – the Spaniard has done very well, and has repeatedly proven his worth on Merseyside already. His heroics in the UEFA Super Cup final against Chelsea were enough to see his new club lift the trophy, and even though he conceded twice, his efforts against Napoli on Tuesday evening have garnered a fair amount of praise too. Perhaps his success shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise though. After all, he has made 445 saves over the course of 130 Premier League appearances during his time in England, as per the league themselves, and has averaged two saves per game for Liverpool in all competitions this season, as per Whoscored. He will surely lose his spot when Alisson returns, but for now, he has proven himself to be a very capable back up option, should he ever be needed again.
