Matt Le Tissier gushed about the form Liverpool attacker Roberto Firmino is currently in ahead of the Reds’ clash with Chelsea.

The pundit shared that the Brazilian forward looked so confident at the moment that you believe he could do anything when that football comes to his feet.

Le Tissier highlighted Firmino’s display in the 3-1 win over Newcastle United and suggested that while the Reds forward had received plaudits, he deserves even more.

“I think this boy has gotten a lot of plaudits but he is just going to different levels,” said Le Tissier on Soccer Saturday (Sky Sports News, 13:58, Saturday, September 21st).

“His link-up play, his touches around the box, it’s just absolutely sublime.

“I mean I didn’t notice for the Salah goal in real-time, I didn’t appreciate just how good that flick and touch was, as it was absolutely tremendous.

“This is a guy who’s so confident that you believe he can do anything when that football comes to him. Those silky touches.”

OPINION

It’s no surprise that Le Tissier is in awe of Firmino after his start to the 2019/20 season, as the Brazilian has been a human highlight reel. The 27-year-old has racked up two goals, three assists and averaged an impressive rating of 8.02 on WhoScored across his five league outings, but even those stats don’t do him justice. Some of Firmino’s touches this season have been beautiful and there aren’t many footballers in the Premier League who could replicate them. The 27-year-old will no doubt be hoping to add more goals to his game this season, as he got less than both Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah who both jointly won the Premier League’s golden boot in their 2018/19 campaign, but even if he doesn’t, Jurgen Klopp won’t mind. Firmino adds something different to the Reds compared to Salah and Mane, so long as he keeps doing what he’s doing then his manager will have no qualms about him.
