Pearce: Klopp likes Sancho

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp “clearly likes” Jadon Sancho, but the Reds could face “huge competition” if they are to try and sign him next summer, according to James Pearce.

Klopp’s men have been linked with a move for the England international before, as reported by the Mirror last year, but Pearce is sceptical as to how likely a deal would be at the end of the season.

Writing in a Q&A for the Athletic, he said: “Klopp clearly likes him but there’s going to be huge competition for his signature if Dortmund show any willingness to sell.

“His value just keeps on rocketing and he’s just signed a new contract worth around £190k per week including bonuses.

“It would be a difficult deal to get done.”

OPINION

Liverpool fans can only imagine how lethal their front line would be with Jadon Sancho in it. The Reds are already one of the most fearsome sides in Europe, and the prospect of adding a player of his quality into the mix is truly mouthwatering, or terrifying, depending on your perspective. The teenager already has two goals and three assists in three Bundesliga appearances so far this term, and has averaged two shots, 2.3 key passes, and 3.7 successful dribbles per match, as per Whoscored. He has the potential to be one of the best players in the world, make no mistake about it, but whether Klopp feels he needs him is a different matter entirely. It’s hard to see who he would displace in that front three of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino at the moment, and while there is little doubting that he would be an elite signing, it may be hard for the Reds to justify such an exorbitant fee on a player they don’t really need.
