John Aldridge has insisted it will be a sad moment for everyone when Jurgen Klopp decides to leave Liverpool in the future.

The Reds’ legend admitted that he hoped the German could stay at Anfield forever.

Writing in his Liverpool Echo column, Aldridge shared that Klopp has put Liverpool in a better state than what he found them in.

“It will be a sad moment when the time does come for him to say goodbye but hopefully that’s a long way off yet,” he wrote.

“I’d love him to stay forever but ultimately we can trust him to do what’s best for himself and Liverpool Football Club.”

This comes in the same week as Klopp’s agent, Marc Kosicke, admitted to Spox that despite Liverpool’s urge to extend the manager’s current deal beyond 2022, the English weather could be a negative factor in his decision.

OPINION

There will not be one person in the red part of Merseyside who would stand up and say they want Klopp to leave the club after what he has achieved in his spell at Liverpool. The German has quickly become a cult-hero at the Reds, with his contagious personality and man-management only two of the many reasons the fans have fallen in love with him – not to mention their sixth Champions League trophy last season. At both Mainz and Borussia Dortmund, the 52-year-old spent seven years in charge before moving on, and when his current deal runs out in 2022, it will be his seventh year at Anfield. It isn’t exactly a secret that there is doubt surrounding his future, and that Liverpool are determined to secure him past those seven years, but Aldridge is right to suggest that Reds’ fans prepare themselves for a sad moment. Why wouldn’t they be sad? Klopp has the best point per game average in his career at Liverpool according to Transfermarkt (1.98), and his brand of football is delivering continued success both in the league and in Europe. Klopp has worked wonders at Liverpool and has transformed them into a side capable of competing in all competitions, something the fans hope continues whether he stays beyond 2022 or not.
