Darren Bent has selected Virgil van Dijk, James Milner, and Jordan Henderson as the players who will be keeping the Liverpool squad calm after their perfect start to the season.

The Sky Sports pundit shared how he believes that the experienced Reds’ trio will be making sure that their teammates are not getting carried away despite the fact they are the only side to win every single game in the Premier League so far.

Speaking on Sky Sports, as quoted by the Express, Bent cast his memory back to last season when Liverpool had a similar advantage over Manchester City before losing it, claiming their early lead means absolutely nothing.

“If you look at last season, for instance, they won’t think five points is a big lead at all,” he said.

“The players like Milner, Henderson and Van Dijk are the leaders in that dressing room.”

“They’ll be saying ‘listen, guys, come on, I know we’ve got a bit of a buffer now but it doesn’t mean anything because we’re five games into the season, we know Manchester City have got the capability of winning ten straight games.”

OPINION

Jurgen Klopp will be delighted with the start his side has made in the Premier League, but he will know better than anyone that it means nothing after five games. Bent is right to suggest that the Reds need to remain calm, but that dressing room will not be carried away with their start just yet. After last season’s disappointment in the league, Liverpool know that they need to perform at the highest level from the first whistle to the very last. The prize could be no better for the Reds, who would win their first-ever Premier League title should they finish top. Players such as Henderson, Milner, and van Dijk are all pivotal parts of Klopp’s plans at Anfield, and right now they will be using their experience to help the squad rather than calming any excitement. Not one player will have their mind on the title right now, and they should take each game as it comes, and all they can do is carry on winning each week.
