Rhian Brewster is one of the strangest case studies in English football at the moment.

The teenage Liverpool striker is one of the most highly-rated and recognisable young talents in the English game right now, but has yet to make his senior bow for the Reds.

He has an U17 World Cup golden boot to his name, and was on the bench for the Champions League final at the beginning of June, and yet he is still, bizarrely a relatively unknown entity.

You would expect that to change at some point this season, and certainly, Jurgen Klopp has shown more than enough faith in him to suggest that he has a high future ahead of him on Merseyside, but for now, the wait for a first team spot goes on.

Not that Brewster is wasting his time in the U23s, mind you.

So far in the Premier League 2 he has netted twice in four matches, and with every passing game he looks more and more like a top flight striker in waiting.

Which is why Liverpool fans will surely be buzzing to hear that he is expected to be involved in some capacity in the Carabao Cup clash against MK Dons later this month.

The Reds kick off their campaign in the competition against the League One side on September 25th, and according to James Pearce Brewster could finally get his senior nod.

Writing in a Q&A for The Athletic, he said: “Rhian Brewster should certainly be involved and Curtis Jones could also get a chance depending on how the next few weeks go.

“But can’t see too many kids getting thrown in.”

If the prodigious hitman does get his chance to play against the Dons, it will not be before time.

Brewster deserves his shot.
