Garth Crooks has selected Liverpool pair Sadio Mane and Andrew Robertson in his Team of the Week after the Reds’ 3-1 win over Newcastle United on Saturday.

Liverpool came from behind to secure all three points after Jetro Willems opened the scoring for the Magpies in the first 10 minutes, with two goals from Mane and a third from Mohamed Salah enough to continue their winning run.

The BBC pundit heaped praise on Robertson for his performance but did suggest that the 25-year-old should take more shots on goal from his position.

“The Scottish international was outstanding yet again for Liverpool,” he wrote on the BBC Sport website.

Crooks also highlighted how effective Mane was in the final third after the Senegalese international joined the list of African players to score 70 goals in the Premier League.

OPINION

Liverpool were relentless against Newcastle at Anfield and could have scored more than the three they managed on the day. Two goals from Mane helped turn the game on its head after the Reds struggled in the opening half an hour, with the growing influence of players such as Robertson taking an effect on the Magpies’ defence. The Scottish international was one of the standout performers for Jurgen Klopp’s men, completing an impressive 89.8% of his passes, and also managing three dribbles according to WhoScored. Robertson has averaged 1.4 shots on goal in his five appearances so far this season, and Klopp will be delighted with the impact he is making. Mane is quickly becoming Liverpool’s main man in their front-three this season, and he will continue to score if he can replicate Saturday’s performance where he attempted four shots on goal according to WhoScored. The Liverpool pair were influential in the win, and both deserve all the plaudits they have received.
