OPINION
There was no time for rest in the international break for Jordan Henderson, as the Liverpool midfielder was picked to start in England’s clash against Bulgaria on Saturday. It was a lacklustre game from start to finish, as England struggled to consistently break down the Bulgarians at first. Southgate decided to place West Ham midfielder Declan Rice alongside Henderson, a questionable decision giving the duo are both defensive-minded. The 30-year-old has had a great start to the season in the heart of Jurgen Klopp’s midfield – averaging two tackles per game as well as 35.5 passes in each outing according to WhoScored. Henderson didn’t have as much to do in the middle of the park at Wembley and had little effect as England eased to victory against the Bulgarians with little effort. Some England fans singled out Henderson and questioned how he was even in the squad, never mind how he started the game, with the Liverpool man surely more effective when playing against better opposition.

What does Jordan Henderson bring to this England team? He constantly gives the ball away and England lose possession.

Jordan Henderson is an awful footballer. He is very lucky to play with other much better players at Liverpool who make him appear less awful #Eng
