OPINION

Liverpool have seen the good and the bad of what can happen when a goalkeeper gets a bit confident with the ball at his feet. At one end of a spectrum, you have Alisson, as calm and assured as you like in possession, able to pick out teammates with ease start attacks from the edge of his own six yard box. At the other, you have Adrian, whose calamitous error against Southampton a few weeks ago gifted Danny Ings the easiest goal he will score all season. And it would appear that youngster Caoimhin Kelleher is intent on putting himself somewhere on that spectrum too after his latest outing for the Republic of Ireland’s U21 side. The 20-year-old stopper made a mockery of a Swedish attacker in his side’s 3-1 win on Tuesday evening with a lovely piece of footwork that had the forward bamboozled all ends up, as shared by the Irish FA’s Twitter account. And many Kopites reckon that he has been learning a thing or two from the club’s Brazilian number one. Now, this kind of thing always looks good until it goes wrong, and once it does, it can be hard to shift that reputation as a calamitous stopper. Here’s hoping for his sake that Kelleher doesn’t screw things up with his feet any time soon.
